Every beginner sees green and red candles. But pro traders see one thing most miss: the strength of the candle. In this post, I will break down candle strength using my own cable drawings, so you can read momentum without any indicator.

What Is Strength Of Candle In Trading?

Strength of a candle tells you who is in control at that moment - buyers or sellers. It is not about color. It is about body size, wick size, and where it closed.

When I started trading, I made the same mistake. I would buy every green candle and sell every red candle. I lost money. Then I learned to read strength, and my win rate changed completely.

Think of it like this: A candle is a fight between buyers and sellers. The body shows who won. The wicks show who tried and failed.

The 3 Types Of Candle Strength (My Cable Drawings)

Look at the drawing at the top of this post. I divided it into 3 simple parts.

1. Most Bullish Candles (Left Side - Strong Buy)

What it looks like: Very big green body, almost no upper wick, tiny lower wick. This is also called a Bullish Marubozu.

What it means: From the second the candle opened, buyers took control and never let go. Sellers tried but failed. This is pure bullish momentum.

How I trade it: If this type of strong bullish candle closes above a valid Fair Value Gap (FVG) or Order Block, I know buyers are serious. This is my favorite entry filter.

Pro Tip: The stronger the body compared to the wick, the stronger the momentum. If you see 3 of these in a row, trend will continue.

2. Neutral Candle - The Doji (Middle - Indecision)

What it looks like: Very small body right in the middle, with long wicks on top and bottom. Looks like a plus sign.

What it means: This is the most important candle to understand. It means NO ONE is in control. Buyers pushed up, sellers pushed down, and it ended where it started. Total indecision.

How I trade it: I NEVER enter on a Doji. This is not an entry candle. This is a warning candle. When you see a Doji at a high after a strong uptrend, it means buyers are tired. A reversal can come next. I close 50% of my position when I see it.

3. Most Bearish Candles (Right Side - Strong Sell)

What it looks like: Very big red body, tiny wicks. This is a Bearish Marubozu.

What it means: Sellers are in complete control. From open to close, they pushed price down. Buyers had no chance.

How I trade it: When a strong bearish candle breaks below a Breaker Block or liquidity low, the downtrend is strong. Don't try to catch the falling knife.

How To Use Candle Strength With SMC Strategy

This is the secret most YouTubers don't teach you. They teach you FVG, Order Block, Liquidity Grab. But they forget to teach you the filter.

Here is my exact 3-step filter I use every day:

Step 1: Mark your SMC zone - FVG, Order Block, or Liquidity.

Step 2: Wait for price to come to the zone.

Step 3: Check candle strength. If you get a strong bullish candle at a bullish zone, TAKE IT. If you get a Doji or weak candle, SKIP IT.

Example:

  • Valid Bullish FVG + Strong Bullish Candle = HIGH PROBABILITY BUY - I take it.
  • Valid Bullish FVG + Doji Candle = LOW PROBABILITY - I skip, even if setup looks good.
  • Valid Bearish Order Block + Strong Bearish Candle = HIGH PROBABILITY SELL

This one filter saved me from 40% of bad trades.

Common Mistakes That Kill Your Account

Mistake 1: Trading every green candle
Not every green candle is bullish. If a green candle has a long upper wick, it means buyers tried to go up but sellers rejected them. That's actually bearish.

Mistake 2: Ignoring the timeframe
A strong bullish candle on 1-minute means nothing if the 1-hour is showing a strong bearish candle. Always check candle strength on higher timeframe. My rule: Trade on 5-min, confirm strength on 1-hour.

Mistake 3: Trading Dojis
Beginners think Doji is a reversal signal to enter immediately. It's not. It's a signal to WAIT. Let the next candle confirm.

My Cable Drawing Method

Why do I draw with cables? Because trading concepts are too complicated with real charts. When I draw it with cables on the floor, your brain remembers it forever. You will never forget what a strong bullish candle looks like after seeing my drawing.

I have made over 100 such drawings - FVG, Order Blocks, Breaker Blocks, Liquidity - all with cables. I am putting them into a printable pack soon.

Final Words

Start looking at candles differently from today. Don't ask "is it green or red?" Ask "HOW strong is it?" That one question will make you a better trader.

If this drawing helped you, share it with one friend who is learning trading.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1. Which is the most bullish candle?
The most bullish candle is the Bullish Marubozu - a big green candle with no wicks. It shows buyers controlled the entire candle.

Q2. What does a Doji mean in trading?
A Doji means indecision. Neither buyers nor sellers are in control. It often appears before a trend reversal, so traders wait for confirmation.

Q3. How to identify strong vs weak candles?
Compare body and wick. Big body + small wick = strong. Small body + long wicks = weak or indecision. Strong candles have momentum.

Q4. Can I trade using only candle strength?
No. Use candle strength as a filter with SMC concepts like FVG and Order Blocks for best results.
